Frequently asked questions and how to reach us.

How do I connect my mug?

Make sure your mug is awake (place it on its charging coaster or pick it up) and that Bluetooth is on. Open MugBar, tap Scan for mug, and MugBar will find and connect to it. On first launch, allow the Bluetooth permission when prompted, MugBar needs it to talk to your mug.

MugBar can't find my mug. What should I do?

A few things to check:

• Confirm Bluetooth is on and you granted MugBar permission to use it.
• Make sure the mug is charged and awake.
• A mug can only be connected to one app at a time. If the official mug app is open and connected, close it (or disconnect there) so MugBar can connect.
• Scanning stops automatically after 30 seconds, just tap Scan for mug again to retry.

Which mugs does MugBar work with?

MugBar is designed to work with the Ember® Mug over Bluetooth. It is an independent app and is not affiliated with Ember Technologies, Inc. Other smart mugs are not currently supported.

Which devices does MugBar run on?

iPhone and Apple Watch. One subscription covers both. The watch app shows the current temperature, the ready-in estimate, your presets, and the LED color, and it unlocks automatically once you subscribe on iPhone.

Where do I see the temperature?

In the app, on a Home Screen or Lock Screen widget, on your Apple Watch, and — while your drink is heating or cooling — in a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

How does the ready-in countdown work?

MugBar watches how fast your drink is actually changing temperature and estimates when it will reach your target. Give it a few readings after you pour, the estimate settles quickly and then counts down. When your mug is holding at target, MugBar says it's ready instead.

What are presets?

Presets are your own named target temperatures — Espresso, Latte, Green tea — each with an icon and a color. Tap one and MugBar sets your mug's target; if you turn on Sync Preset Color to Mug in Settings, the mug's LED ring changes to match. You can apply a preset from the app, from the presets widget, or by asking Siri. Selecting a preset while the mug is away works too, MugBar applies it the next time you connect.

What can I ask Siri?

Try “Check my mug”, “Set my mug to 55 degrees”, or “Set my mug to Espresso”. The same actions are available as blocks in the Shortcuts app, so you can build automations, like preheating to your morning preset when your alarm goes off.

My widget or Live Activity isn't updating.

Widgets show the latest reading MugBar received. Open the app once so it can connect to your mug; readings then refresh automatically as your mug reports changes. If a reading looks stale, opening the app will reconnect and bring everything up to date.

Can I control the mug from MugBar?

Yes. Set the target temperature, apply a preset, change the LED ring color, and rename your mug, all from the app, the widgets, your watch, or Siri. Battery level and charging status are there too.

What does the subscription include?

Everything: live temperature, the ready-in countdown, presets, widgets, Live Activity and Dynamic Island, alerts, Siri and Shortcuts, and the Apple Watch app. It starts with a 7-day free trial, is billed monthly or yearly, covers iPhone and Apple Watch together, and can be cancelled anytime in your App Store settings.

Will MugBar drain my battery?

No. MugBar uses an efficient push-based Bluetooth connection, it reacts to updates your mug sends rather than constantly polling, so the impact on your device battery is minimal.

Is my data private?

Completely. MugBar collects no data, has no account, and no tracking. Everything happens on your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.
